Pokerus. Something that is whispered in awe and sought by many. But, I hear you ask, what is Pokerus and what is so special about it? What you need is a guide that can tell you all that. Now, where can you find such a guide? Oh! You're reading one. How convenient.

Pokerus is a virus. No, not the sort that jams up your computer. An illness. But this one is rather unusual. It gets you double Effort points (if you don't know what those are, I suggest you read the guide found here. If you've read it and STILL don't understand it, I suggest you don't bother.) So it's very useful to have, and so it's something everyone wants. Strange how everyone wants their pokemon to catch a virus :-P

Anyways; how to catch it. It's pretty hard to do this. What you have to do is battle a pokemon, wild or trainer, which has the virus. Then your pokemon will catch it. There are two ways you can tell you have it. One, you can see a little status thing beneath your pokemon that has a tag saying PKRS, the abbreviation for Pokerus. Two, Nurse Joy will tell you one of your pokemon has it when you heal a pokemon with Pokerus at a pokemon centre. Once you have it, it's easy to spread it to others. Just put it in your PC and it will spread to those in the same box as yours. Alternately, if it is in your party it will spread to others in your party.

Oh, a word of warning. After a while, the virus will go away. So when you catch the virus, battle like crazy until it's gone and make good use of it.

Any tips? Oh, I have a couple. One; Mix records a lot and then battle the people in their base. I got Pokerus TWICE by doing this. Two; if you get it give it to someone else by trading a pokemon with the virus. Then they can give it back to you after you've lost the virus. Handy if you need some long-term training.

PokeRus, it seems more of a mystery than thought, I infact caught it on Sapphire randomly, now either it lasted for like a week (unlikely) or it appears randomly.

I think I've only ever caught Pokérus once, on GSC. Don't really remember stuff like this very well though so I can't remember if I've got it again or not.

That's because you waited until the virus was no longer contagious. I've gotten in Diamond, too - it starts out with a purple icon labeled "PKRS" next to the Pokemon's name, and can be spread to other Pokemon as usual. After a while, it changes to the small face next to their picture you're talking about - that means that the pokemon is now immune: it is no longer contagious and cannot catch Pokerus again.

i only got pokerus once on emerald and saw an episode where team rocket (not jessie and those losers) but the higher up guys and they took prof. oak but i didnt learn anything cuz it was to be continued, i hate that...

It's true that a Pokemon which has had Pokerus for 24 hours will stop the virus from being contagious, however I heard that by leaving that Pokemon in the box, the 24 hour limit would be removed and it would stay contagious. Am I wrong?

ive read a few other guides on the PKRS and half of them say that the effect stays after it goes :) , can we confirm that?

Yeah, it stays with your Pokemon ut only that partciular Pokemon can gain the double EVs. So your Pokemon stll has Pokerus, but it can't spread to other Pokemon unlessyou have another one with Pokerus that is contagious.

The first game i played was Saphire (I know it's sad) and within 2 days I had it, and on the third my Blazikin was level 73 and I'd beaten the elite 4, it was one of the best weeks ever.

i've been playing pokemon for years and have played every game up to emerald, but i have never once got pokerus. i didn't even know what it as until a few days ago. isn't that sad?
