On April 30th at the Space Needle in Seattle it's the final of the "Pokémon Emerald Frontier Battle Brain" competition- that's "Pokémon trivia quiz" to you and me.
This news item is more than 45 days old. Updates are unlikely and newer information may already be available.
The fourteen finalists are made up of the two winners of the seven regional competitions. There was apparently 36,000 entries over all - that's about one entry for every 9000 people in the US and Canada.The event will be hosted by Grant Goodeve, who's apparently an entertainment industry veteran. If you allow us to be potentially libellous for a second, the internet reckons he was the voice of Wolf O'Donnell in Star Fox Assault (for Gamecube), and apparently "had a serious drink problem until a car crash finally convinced him to turn his life around". The internet never lies!
Interestingly, his wife is the aptly named Debbie Ketchum. We don't think she's a celebrity.
Anyway, the winner will win a trip for two to the new PokéPark theme park in Japan. Which is exciting.
What's this all in aid of? Afterall, big companies don't splash out on a big publicity stunt unless they're promoting something. Pokémon Emerald, which is basically Ruby & Sapphire with extra lasers and kittens, and is out in America on May 1st. PUK will hopefully have some more coverage on this in due course.
